Users'Evaluation Workshop

In November 2017, a workshop with 3 user groups (patients, relatives and health professionals) was carried out at Parc Sanitari Sant Joan de Déu aiming to assess the acceptability and usability of the m-RESIST solution and the tools included.

Different results were obtained by the workshop. The solution was especially well accepted by clinicians, who considered it as a useful tool for patients with this disease. Patients and caregivers also accepted it well, but they clarified that it is more suitable for acute phases of the disease or for elderly people who need follow-up. In stable or well-controlled disease phases, m-RESIST is perceived as a solution to control them, more than to help them with their illness. Regarding usability, aspects like psychoeducational content, along with the agenda, the visits online and the Help Button were very well valued. m-RESIST is considered as a complement to the usual treatment, rather than a substitute. As per its advantages, all user groups agreed that it allows a faster contact path between clinicians and patients and that it offers a better follow-up process. As per its disadvantages, the users considered as “annoying” the need to charge the devices on a daily basis.  Moreover, patients were worried about receiving too many notifications and, also like caregivers, about not to being able to communicate with clinicians on weekends. Accessibility was valued as correct by the 3 groups. They all considered it is an easy tool to use, highlighting the devices’ design.

In conclusion, the m-RESIST solution was perceived as a very well valued proposal by all 3 implicated user groups, which could be used as a complement to the usual treatment, as well as a step/method to improve the quality of the health support provided to patients with treatment-resistant schizophrenia.
